Thoughts From 2 Peter - Day 3

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

What has God given us that enables us to participate in the divine nature? It has to be the indwelling of the Holy Spirit - God inside of us. So what are these great and precious promises? It has to be the Old testament prophecies of the Holy Spirit coming.

Here are some prophecies of the Holy Spirit coming to live inside believers during the New Covenant.

Isa. 44:3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land,  and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring,  and my blessing on your descendants.

Isa. 59:21 “As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit, who is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the Lord.

Jer. 31:33,34 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel

after that time,” declares the Lord.
“I will put my law in their minds
and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
34 No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord.

Ezek.36:26,27  I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

Ezek. 37:13,14  Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’”

Joel 2:28,29 “And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.
29 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

Although it has been calculated that there are 7474 promises in the Bible, I feel like these are the ones that give us everything we need to participate in the divine nature.
